National Game Day in
Libraries.
HTPL had a small turnout for NGD, but what we lacked in number of participants we made up in enthusiasm. Everyone was online for one thing and one thing only: Super Smash Bros. BRAWL, in a nationwide tournament of over 60 libraries from across the United States and Canada. Two gamers from each library would face off in a test of skill against 10 other libraries for the chance to be in the finals. Randal Robbins Rsr2), Chris Crane (CRANE), and Matt Crane (Bootz) took turns besting other libraries in some intense, furious carnage. Pizza was delivered as a reward for a job well done. Unfortunately, HTPL was eliminated in the first round of the finals but placed 8th overall. ADL (Ann Arbor) went on to win the tournament, narrowly defeating the second place team. And so the digital battlefield remains empty waiting for another test of champions. Good luck next year.

Like last year, we have three Wiis, each hooked up to a projector. One station will be used to hold the
tournament, and the other two will be there for open play with such games as Rock Band 2, Mario Kart, Guitar Hero III, Mario Party 8, DDR Hottest Party and Disney games, Wii Sports and Rayman Raving Rabbids.

HTPL has now purchased its own Nintendo Wii entertainment system and will be continuing our tournaments with the After School BRAWL series, to begin in May. We will now be using GTsystem.org to keep track of gaming scores and teams. This system also has functionality for clan record-keeping and even league record-keeping. This site also networks with other libraries and allows for competition between them.
